Membership
SGMP is the only national organization
in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to government
meetings. Since our founding in 1981, we have
grown to nearly 4,000 members and 31 chapters.
We are now in our third consecutive year of membership
growth and chapter expansion.
SGMPs mission
is to enhance the knowledge and expertise of government
meeting professionals. And our objectives are
to improve the quality of and promote the cost-effectiveness
of government meetings. Member value in our Society
is delivered though education, resources and networking.
The member benefits area will show you much more
about the SGMP membership experience.
Affiliation with
a local chapter is available to every member at
no additional charge. All chapter members receive
additional member benefits exclusively through
that chapter. Each monthly chapter meeting provides
member benefits in all three areas education,
resources and networking. Go to chapter affiliation
to learn more.
We have a variety
of membership categories, each with different
eligibility requirements and application rules.
So it is very important to review the definitions
and rules within each category to be sure you
are submitting a complete and accurate membership
application package. All of this information is
outlined in the three "how to join"
sections.
Each SGMP membership
requires a single individual representative who
will receive the rights and benefits of membership
in our Society. Our membership, therefore, is
comprised of individuals and not agencies or companies
(but more than one individual at any organization
may be a member). Each member in any category
has one of two membership types: individual or
organizational. This differentiation in type pertains
only to how to handle a membership transfer. You
can check out membership ownership for more details
on this.
We look forward
to welcoming you to SGMP! Questions? Just ask
